April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Aggression in a dog is frightening. If your once adorable and cuddly pup decides to snap or lunge on someone in your house, you likely break out in a cold sweat and start worrying about how much further it could be.

But, dealing with those aggression problems is not always the stressful, nearly untenable condition you fear. Most of all dogs with aggression and biting tendencies can be trained and controlled securely. You have to know the following dog training tips which can help you solve these problems.

Letting Past the Fear

A dog that likes to snap at somebody is scary, and you're forgiven for being scared at the first beginning. However, you have to keep in mind that it is your dog. If you show fear to it, you're only going to further those bad behaviors and make it worse.

So, step one in solving these terrible behaviors is to control your household and banish fear. You don't just need to tell your dog in charge, you need to trust it and demonstrate it. A dog communicates throughout body language and if you say "I'm scared" they'll take action correspondingly.

Once you've gotten past this situation, things can get much easier. But, the real actions you'll take rely  largely on what particular aggression problems your dog has.

The Aggression Problem and Its Causes

Aggression arrives in a lot of types. A dog does not just wake up one day and decide it will attack everything that it meets (unless there's something physically or mentally wrong with it). So, you need to identify what cause those snapping and growling.

Stranger Aggression - If your dog is aggressive with strangers, it might be anxious or unsure of itself. This comes down to providing a clear, leadership existence and showing it its position in the house.

Aggression on Other Dogs - A dog aggressive on other dogs in your home probably doesn't understand their position in the house. It is going to protect you and its current territory. Take control as an alpha leader and demonstrate it that neither dog should be aggressive.

Aggression with Leash - Leash aggression comes from being restricted from a target. Train a puppy to overcome this by forcing it to sit while on a leash in viewing distance from its source of aggression. You can use treats or clickers to help..

Food Bowl Aggression - Use a separate room for your dog when it is eating, and reassure it when it is eating. Food aggression can be hard to solve and is very dangerous, even with very well trained dogs. If your dog has food bowl aggression, consider changing meal times, shifting places, and giving reassurance. If that doesn't work, see a vet to rule out any health problems that may cause heightened aggression.

Random Aggression - A dog that develops aggression with minimal notice and without any provocation is extremely dangerous. It could be a result of sickness or mental instability, so you'll need to let your vet check it immediately.

Each of these is an entirely different condition that requires a different dog obedience training method. And, you need to remember, if the dog aggression results in biting that you cannot manage and doesn't fall into any category, you should seek out an expert.

A dog is a very dangerous animal if it is not controlled properly. Do what you can, but be responsible and if you're one of the 99% of people whose dogs just need a little obedience and a clear position in the house, it shall be fine.
