Belfast Girls by Gerry McCullough wins Night Reading Book of the Year 2010

In a closed poll of the author community Night Reading, the Northern Irish romance and social critique 'Belfast Girls' has been declared the winner.

April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Night Reading is a community where 558 authors meet, appraise each others' work and support each other in their respective literary activities.

During the first few weeks of April the community ran a closed vote on 47 selected books published during 2010 by Night Reading members.

The winner has just been announced as being the much-acclaimed, 100% 5-star rated on US Amazon, Ulster Tatler Book of the Month for March 2011, 'Belfast Girls' by Northern Irish poet and author Gerry McCullough, which is the story of three women's lives in post-Troubles Belfast, where the lead character is a fashion model in love with a repressed near-priest, the second is entangled with an idealistic drugs dealer associated with remnants of the IRA, and the third is a human car wreck seeking personal redemption. The repressed near-priest boyfriend, John, may be the most glowering, high-handed and self-righteous fictional character since Jane Austen's Darcey from 'Pride & Prejudice'.

Second in the poll is 'Simon's Choice' by Yorkshire writer Charlotte Castle who has just signed with the Los Angeles office of literary agents The Literary Group International. 'Simon's Choice' documents the effects on a perfect family of their seven year old daughter being diagnosed with lukemia and is where the daughter famously asks her father “Will you come to heaven with me, Daddy?”.

Third in the poll is international best seller and former US free Kindle #1 'Spoilt', written by Australian author Joanne Ellis, which is the lively romantic crime tale of a cop tracking down a serial killer whose ultimate target is the cop's own girlfriend. The sequel to 'Spoilt', 'Twisted Fire', will be released during May 2011.

The management of Night Reading offers its congratulations to all those selected to take part in the poll and for the many much-admired works it contained.
