April 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The week of May 3rd, Dr. Lauri Romanzi will host Grand Rounds, a ‘carnival’ of some of the best health and medical blogs written by doctors, nurses, patients and other healthcare professionals. The theme for the week will be ‘International Health,’ and will cover top health issues across the globe. This blog fair compiles some of the best online writings on medicine and health. Each week, the ‘roundtable’ is hosted by a different blogger who summarizes the elite collection of blogs. The weekly rotation of sharers keeps content rich, relevant and critically abreast on today’s top health issues.
Some pressing concerns on International Health include the one billion people who lack access to adequate and proper health care. Among these are some million children under the age of 5 who die of malnutrition from preventable diseases. AIDS/ HIV now affects 33.4 million people and continues to spread rapidly. An enhanced communication/ collaboration system within the health care industry is more critical now than ever, in order to effectively address emergencies that arise from the onset of natural disasters. A new global health crisis faces the medical community: the emerging of new infectious diseases and the re-emerging of old ones. Although reasons are not comprehensively clear at present, it is largely being attributed to the rapid spread of anti-biotic resistant pathogens and disease-carrying insects that are resistant to insecticides. Antibiotic resistance is presenting a new platform of challenges for hospitals and clinics across the world.
