April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Kenyan ICT firm Colocation4Africa is setting new standards for data backup and business continuity for companies around Africa, with their 11,000 square foot Data Center facility in Pennsylvania, USA.
The Data Center facility which offers state-of-the-art connectivity, environment and security, offering a 99.9% uptime guarantee, is the ideal location for companies around Africa to colocate their servers as a back up for all mission-critical data.

"Studies conducted by the major companies around the world confirm that companies unable to retrieve their data after a disaster are not likely to survive," notes Fay Naj Colocation4Africa COO. "With Colocation4Africa Data Centers, companies are not depending on third-party backup services to take care of their data, but have their own servers in the most secure and suitable environment, where their data is stored. With an ordinary internet connection, Colocation4Africa clients can log into their server and manage them as if they were sitting right in front of the server," continues Fay Naj.

According to various estimates, more than 60% of all information systems downtime and data losses are due to failures of power supply systems, ventilation, air conditioning and as a result of external factors such as flooding, fires, burglary, etc.
"Our facilities are designed to offer the most suitable and reliable as well as secure environment for customers' servers and their data," adds Fay Naj.

The Colocation4Africa facilities in Pennsylvania, USA environment comprises of precision-controlled raised floor air conditioning systems which protect and cool mission-critical servers and equipment in the Network Operations Center. The facility is controlled by multiple 30-Ton APC™/Airflow™, 20-Ton Liebert™, & 20-Ton Data Aire™ dual-compresser redundant systems. These systems provide a virtually dust-free and particle-free computing environment, with temperature, humidity, and air-quality regulation.
The Network Operations Center currently has 1200amps 480V & 800amps 208V 3-Phase power currently available from PP&L™ (Pennsylvania Power & Electric). The facility is currently backed up and protected by multiple 275KVA and 160KVA Powerware™ 9315/9395 facility-wide UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, which feed PDI™, MGE™, & Liebert™ PDU (Power Distribution Unit) systems. In a very rare case of utility outage, the Cummins™ 250KW & Detroit Diesel™ 580KW & 675KW deisel generators start automatically, taking over for the UPS systems and supplying all necessary power for the facility. The generators interface to the power grids thru Asco™ 7000 & RussElectric™ RTBD automatic transfer panels. With multiple fuel tanks on-site, the generators are capable of running without refueling for approximately 48 hours.
Restricted access to the Network Operations Center is monitored by qualified personnel 24 hours a day, every day. Visitors and clientele are only allowed on-site if escorted by Network Operations Center staff. The entire Network Operations Center is monitored, ensuring prompt response and thorough coverage to fire or security alarms. "We supply all our Network Operations Center customers with advanced firewall, encryption, intrusion detection and other security measures," emphasizes Fay Naj. Colocation4Africa maintains a full digital video surveillance system of the Network Operations Center, with full on-site and off-site recording.
The network is connected via 10-Gigabit Ethernet Wavelength handoff(s) on redundant/dual-path DWDM fiber-optic transport connections to XO™ Communications and Zayo™ Bandwidth. Verizon™ (Formerly Bell Atlantic PA) and Frontier™ Communications (Formerly Commonweath Telephone - CTSI), fiber is also available in the facility. The network currently connects our POPs (Points of Presence) in Scranton, Philadelphia, & NYC. transit is provided via multiple 10- Gigabit/Gigabit Ethernet transit circuits from Telia™ (www.teliasoneraic.com), Cogent™ Communications (www.cogentco.com), BTN™/PCCW™ (www.btnaccess.com), XO™ Communications (www.xo.com), Hurricane Electric™ (www.he.net), & Deutsche Telekom™ (www.deutschetelekom-icss.com). Colocation4Africa also peers with multiple
carriers at the New York Internet Exchange™ (www.nyiix.net). For redundancy,
Colocation4Africa is currently running BGP4 (border gateway routing protocol) to maintain the speed and uptime. If one backbone line goes down, it will balance the load to the other(s). If one line gets congested, it will load balance the traffic.

"Utilizing the technologies available at our Data Center facilities to secure your data will be the perfect investment to your company’s future," emphasizes N Hussein Colocation4Africa Chief Financial Officer. "With pricing from as low as $88, companies can colocate with us and secure their future," continues N Hussein.
