Student Musicians Learn From the Best at UMSL’s Jazz CampStudents 13 years of age or older with at least one year of study on their instruments, and adult musicians, learn from the finest in jazz during this weeklong program
By: University of Missouri–St. Louis Students age 13 years or older with a minimum of one year of study on their instruments, as well as adult musicians, are encouraged to apply to attend the camp. Faculty includes Jim Widner, director of Jazz Studies at UMSL and leader of the Jim Widner Big Band and the St. Louis Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with artists such as Clark Terry, Bill Watrous, Mulgrew Miller and Randy Brecker. He will be teaching bass, with additional faculty on saxes, trombone, trumpet, piano, guitar and drums. The $299 registration fee includes all instructions, master classes and concerts. Middle and high school students have the option of on-campus housing for an additional $125 for the five nights and $100 for breakfast and dinner meals. Enrollments will be accepted up to the start of the camp, but participants are encouraged to register as early as possible in case a certain instrument section becomes full. In case of cancellation, a full refund will be granted up to the week prior to the start of the camp.
