“Narayanganj CC of Bangladesh Look Early Favourites for Pattaya Cricket Sixes Glory”

The first day of the three day 2011 Pattaya International Cricket Sixes was played in the glorious surroundings of the cricket ground at Horseshoe Point Resort in Pattaya, Thailand. Horses trotted past, peacocks punctuated proceedings with their calls and the day’s proceedings were rounded off with a swimming pool party at the Tourism Authority of Thailand supported sports event.

Earlier, in the first match of the day Rajni GOC set out their stall with a huge win over local Pattaya boys outfit, the Pattaya Colts. Rajni showed no mercy and smashed the highest total of the day, 103 for no loss, as the Colts struggled to contain the flamboyant batsmen. Sanjeev Sharma retired on 32 not out for Rajni. The Colts were then contained to just 36 runs in reply with Swapnil of Rajni in devastating mood. In an incredible over he took 4 wickets for just 1 run to earn himself the ACST Player of the Day award. Yogesh of the Colts was the only player to make it into double figures.

Later, Rajni also defeated the CBB SC’s, featuring Will Badger, having comfortably defended their total of 67 with excellent bowling, particularly from Swapnil and Ishwar.

Pattaya Stallions, under skipper Simon Philbrook, won bragging rights as they defeated Phuket rivals the Village Cricket Club with two overs to spare. The Villagers had been held to a modest 38 runs by some miserly Stallion bowling and the Pattaya outfit knocked off the required runs in just 3 overs, Usman retiring on 32.

Narayanganj CC from Bangladesh One returned after a good run in last year’s tournament are are again one of the fancied sides. They demolished both the GIS Gladiators and the CBB Postels in their bid to be this year’s Pattaya Sixes champions. Budduit was a standout player scoring 29 and 31* in his two innings today.

Day two of the Pattaya International Cricket Sixes starts tomorrow at 10am at Horseshoe Point Resort cricket ground. Entry for spectators is free and food and drinks are available at the ground.
