April 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The Urmston-based developer has started work on the refurbishment of Staley Hall, a Grade II* listed 15th Century building, and associated outbuildings which are Grade II listed. The history of buildings date back to at least 1340, when the first Hall is reputed to have been built by Robert de Staveley, thought to be the owner of the land at the time.

The Hall is undergoing refurbishment to incorporate a total of 28 apartments and townhouses. Given the historic significance of the buildings and setting, the refurbishment will incorporate as many original materials as possible including the reinstatement of timbers, for example. Materials reclaimed from the roofs of the former outbuildings will also be reused.

Commenting on the project, Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes North West, said: “This historical development had left, until recently, a derelict Hall with a series of unused outbuildings which had gradually fallen into a state of disrepair.

“This is a particularly complex scheme and we are having to respond to a number of challenges. However, the building is such a prominent feature locally that we are determined to breathe life back into the development and transform it into an aspirational place to live.”

The first release of homes are expected to go on sale in the Summer.

The Staley Hall scheme is located on a prominent and elevated area of land, high above the River Tame, around one mile from Stalybridge town centre. The site is surrounded by existing housing and the River Tame Valley.

The architects on the project are Manchester-based Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams.
