ISSIG Requests Orthus Update Membership on U.K. Data Protection Act
LONDON, United Kingdom - April 20, 2011 - In response to an industry call for information security leaders to address current United Kingdom Data Protection Act (DPA) issues and challenges.
In response to a dramatic rise in data breaches and fines over the last year, the ISSIG asked Orthus to explain principles and practices of the DPA to their members to ensure they understand what constitutes compliance to this critical legislation.
Orthus will also detail the common denominator associated with all data breaches experienced over the last year and what businesses can do to thwart attackers at the ISSIG Meeting held at the Missenden Abbey Conference Centre in Great Missenden Bucks on Wednesday May 11, 2011.
“Last year twenty-five credit card frauds were committed each minute in the United Kingdom and almost one in four British citizens were the victim of identity theft. This year there are more than 4.2 million web pages available on the Internet offering some kind of free down-loadable hacking software. Statistics on data breaches and identity theft raise year after year yet most organisations fail to address this fact. This attitude is particularly prevalent in the U.K. business sector where public disclosure of breaches is not mandated” says Orthus Chief Executive Richard Hollis. “DPA compliance begins with understanding that data equals money” states Hollis.
