April 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The importance of water is evident from the fact that for this year World Heritage Day on April 18, 2011, the theme chosen is “The Cultural Heritage of Water”. Mr Vijay Kumar Kedia who holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science – BITS Pilani has his roots at the famous town of Laxmangarh in Sikar district of Shekhawati Rajasthan.

After his indulgence for over a decade with flourishing construction business, during 90s Vijay switched over to farming at Jambhali in Paithan Taluka in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. Despite the presence of several check dams with 25000 cubic meters water holding capacity in the reservoirs, water became a matter of life & death for success of his farming.

When all existing methods of rainwater harvesting also could not solve his thirst for water, Vijay Kedia started experimenting on his own. With his knowledge, experience and research, he came up with a revolutionary invention - Kedia Farm Pattern (KFP) Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) system and got a patent for same also. He then founded Varsha Jal for sharing his expertise to the nation at large. KFP indeed is a unique technology that can harvest up to 80% rainwater underground, contrary to other RWH technologies which can store only up to 18% rainwater above ground which is open to evaporation.

On April 6, 2011, Vijay Kedia visited Shridhar University Pilani and interacted with Chancellor Mr Vijay Pal Yadav, Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd) Mahesh Vij and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof BR Natarajan. Addressing the faculty members of the University, Jal Mitra Kedia shared his mission with passion for rain water harvesting and salient features of the Kedia Farm Pattern – KFP scheme.
