April 20, 2011 - PRLog -- With a strong release show at San Diego's premier venue Lestat's West (Mraz, Jewel, ...), Carl Durant introduced a full house to his rocking band and his debut solo-EP "Last Place". Its single "Appropriate", released in 2010, got extensive airplay on unsigned-music shows in San Diego. Radio Sophie (103.7FM) had it in rotation on its weekly "Unsigned Sunday" show and it was also heard on KIOZ 105.3FM and 91x. Cathryn Beeks, who hosts KPRI 102.1FM's Homegrown Hour every Sunday, selected both "Appropriate" and "Losing Time" as featured songs.

Apart from Carl's band, two LA-based singer songwriters played the CD release show. Both just came back from SXSW and were given a warm welcome in San Diego. Jesse Thomas (Starbucks "Pick of the Week") opened the night with a set of heartfelt story-telling songs sung with her trademark raspy voice. After Carl's band performance, Jes Hudak sat down in front of her piano and blew everyone away with a highly appraised set of radio-ready songs and great vocals. She will be appearing in Bravo's "Platinum Hit", premiering on May 30th.

The line-up was completed with local "King of Flow" Rob Deez and double SDMA-winner Josh Damigo. Their hilarious performances in between the sets were much appreciated by an increasingly enthusiastic crowd.
"It was a fantastic way to get this CD introduced to my fans in San Diego", says Carl, "I'm still not completely grasping what happened. I do remember we had a lot of fun on and off stage. Probably I didn't thank the other performers and venue manager Louis Brazier enough for making it such a special night, a night of great music, fantastic performances and just, a bunch of really nice people."  Sounds like a satisfied songwriter.

The CD itself was recorded, mixed and produced at Carl's home-based studio and mastered by Paul Abbott (Tape Op, EQ, Sound on Sound) of ZenMastering in San Diego.
Counting five originals, it has a lounge rock feel that translates the ambiance of Carl's solo live performance into a true studio-album with a blend of acoustic and electronic sounds.
"The opening song Come Closer is my favorite to play live", says Krissy who performed backing vocals on all but one track of the CD, "I just love the harmonies on that one".

As a final remark, Carl adds: "It was a  lot of hard work and attention for detail, but I think it all paid off. I feel I was able to create my own sound and I just hope someone will like it. I mean, I like it !"

The CD is available for purchase as download and/or physical copy directly from Carl Durant's website: http://www.carldurant.com. For bio and additional information or pictures, visit the ReverbNation profile at http://www.reverbnation.com/carldurant.
