April 19, 2011 - PRLog -- He spends his Saturday afternoons making saves on the pitch, but one local footballer is now using his weekdays to help Northern Irish consumers save in a different way.

Ards FC goalkeeper Aaron Kerr is the senior account manager of Northern Ireland deals website Daily Dealicious. The site launched last month and is keeping Aaron busier than even the most prolific of IFA Championship strikers.

When he is not being called into action on the pitch, the former Northern Ireland under-21 international is now making pitches of a different sort since starting work at the Belfast-based company three months ago.

He said: “Being a footballer has definitely helped me as I’ve moved into business. Football is very much a results-driven business and that gives you a relentless approach that transfers well to the world of business.

“Football also gives you a thick skin and you learn not to take anything personally. It tends to make you pretty open and honest too – you tell it like it is. Business owners seem to respond well to that approach.

“Certainly Daily Dealicious has been really well received by both businesses and customers. Now the website is live, it’s easy to show people how it works and local businesses have been very keen to offer their deals through the site.”

The website is based on the group-buying system and allows customers to benefit from hefty discounts at Northern Ireland’s top restaurants, hotels, spas and other businesses when they buy in bulk together through Daily Dealicious.

But Aaron has recently secured a deal of his own – signing forms to play for Ards next season after impressing in his first term with the club. The 28-year-old had been set for a career as a professional footballer in England after spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Walsall, but injury hampered his progress.

After spells with English non-league clubs, he returned to Northern Ireland to play for Crusaders and was beginning to cement his place in the team before picking up a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of action for more than a year.

He signed for Ards a month into the current season and quickly found his way back to both fitness and form.

He added: “I knew that a career as a full-time footballer was going to be unlikely when Walsall released me in 2004. I knew then that I would have to find a job that has a similar buzz about it.

“Football is all about highs and lows, and you won’t find many former footballers that go into a job that keeps them on an even keel.

“I’m lucky that Daily Dealicious is in such an exciting industry at the minute. It’s really non-stop and I rarely even get time for lunch these days! I’m constantly talking to different businesses about featuring their deals on the site.”
