‘THE PLANET’S LAWYER’ LAUNCHES ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE
AT WOMEN ON FIRE EASTER EVENT

Polly Higgins, barrister, author and international environmental lawyer renowned for advocating a different approach to preventing the destruction of the planet, will be unveiling her latest initiative for children and the earth, the ‘Global Earth Rally’, at the Women on Fire event this Easter Saturday at Westminster Central Hall.

Voted by the Ecologist as one of the ‘Worlds Top 10 Visionary Thinkers’ for her earlier work on advancing the Universal Declaration of Planetary Rights, Polly recently submitted a second proposal to the United Nations: the Crime of Ecocide.

Polly was nominated “The Planet’s Lawyer” by the 2010 Performance Awards, has been named one of the top “unreasonable people” in the world by the cult US online magazine Planet Green for refusing to accept the norm and hailed by the Guardian as one of their Green Heroes working for the right kind of environmental change.

Polly Higgins says:

“Women on Fire’ is a collaboration of inspiring people, an event for everyone to celebrate all things female and to gain inspiration with their own dreams and enterprises. It is a great platform to discuss and debate some key issues confronting the world today too. I look forward to unveiling more information about the ‘Global Earth Rally’ which takes place at the end of this year right across the globe.”

Designed entirely around women, and open to everyone regardless of age or background, Women on Fire is a one day fully interactive community event, bringing together some of the world’s most clear sighted entrepreneurial female leaders. Forming an all-female 'parliament' of speakers Women on Fire will see key issues being debated around ecology, human rights, environment, science, business, poverty, film and art, whilst aiming to generate confidence in everyone, provide new resources, and skills & support for women.

Polly Higgins will be joined by biologist Elisabet Sahtouris, peace campaigner Scilla Elworthy, human rights campaigner Hafsat Abiola-Costello, filmmaker and conservationist Madelaine Westwood, journalist and broadcaster Angela Saini, the founder and director of Kids Company Camila Batmanghelidjh, and founder of Women on Fire, shaman Judith Seelig, to name a few.

The all-female environment will encourage unshakable self confidence and generate a mass of collaborative energy, with the chance to learn a practice that resources creativity and happiness. Debate between speakers and audience will be held in the round.

This event will take place at Westminster Central Hall on Easter Saturday 23rd April 2011 from 9AM – 7PM, programme 10AM – 6PM.

Women on Fire is a non-profit organisation funded to date by donations, private loans and gifted skills. It’s been set up to promote and develop confidence in female intelligence, instinct and leadership, without the loss of tenderness. There will be a one minute silence for all the women around the world who have no voice, no choice in how they live led by founder of Women on Fire, Judith Seelig.

Founder of Women on Fire, Judith Seelig, comments:

“The world today can seem grim. We are drowning in stories and images which testify to the arrogance and greed of politicians and corporations, the brutality of war and destruction of communities. But there are bold, clear sighted women who offer hope for a better future. This remarkable event brings many of them together, and will give all the opportunity to ignite their own optimism and power.”

Judith goes on to say:

“Women as decision makers are our one underused resource in addressing all the crises of our time: ecological, economic, social and spiritual. Women on Fire encourages women to develop self-confidence without feeling challenged by patriarchal certainties. We want to offer instinctual wisdom as a partner to reason, wise women to accompany wise men. We aim to encourage collaboration on a vast scale not just at the event on Easter Saturday, but in to the future worldwide.”
