Here is an early sneak-peek at some of the many and varied themes and topics due to be discussed in the breakout technical sessions scheduled in the course of the jam-packed four days.

Automation in the Cloud – While infrastructure - whether public, private or hybrid models - tends to dominate cloud computing discussions, it is applications that are critical to establishing value in the cloud. In a session to be given at Cloud Expo in June by HP Software's Director, Cloud Global Practice, Marc Wilsonson, Wilkinson will provide best practices from IT experts to equip attendees with the knowledge to build automated, repeatable processes that provide control, manageability and assurance for cloud success.

Architecting the Cloud – How should Enterprise Architects think about cloud computing? How can they best counterbalance vendor spin? In his Cloud Expo New York session in June the managing partner of Zapthink, Jason Bloomberg will be outlining the primary issues an EA must consider in order to make appropriate decisions about various Cloud-based options, how to put together a Cloud roadmap, and how best to communicate the position the Cloud should take in the greater context of agile Enterprise Architecture.

Big Data – Anyone who wants to know how (and why) Yahoo! runs the world's largest Hadoop cloud needs to attend the session "Lessons of Big Data" by Todd Papaioannou, VP of Global Cloud Computing at Yahoo! Papaioannou will be discussing the lessons learned as Yahoo! continues to build products on the Hadoop platform, successfully solving some of the most critical technical challenges when it comes to crunching big data at unprecedented scale.

Cloud Economics – How do public clouds offer order-of-magnitude improvements in economics? This question will be answered in June by GoGrid CEO John Keagy in a session entitled The Economics of Public Cloud Computing. Cloud Expo New York attendees will learn from Keagy - a popular, regular Cloud Expo speaker - why the cloud should be a critical component of their IT strategy, how to identify inefficiencies within their current IT infrastructure, and how Cloud Computing will impact the world-wide IT economy by actually shrinking it.

Cloud Integration – The Founder & CTO of Dell Boomi, Rick Nucci, will be giving a session at Cloud Expo New York on "Cloud Integration: Best Practices for IT Managers" in which he will cover a set of business and technical "Best Practices" for cloud integration, drawing on insights gained from thousands of cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-on-premise integration projects.

Cloud Strategy – Bhargav Shah, Director of KPMG's IT Advisory practice, will be giving a session on how to choose the right Cloud strategy for an organization: it is called "The Impact of Cloud Computing on IT." There is no one size fits all, and so Shah - leader of KPMG's cloud solution development - will be sharing knowledge and insights (Private vs. Public cloud, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS) gleaned from helping many clients leverage cloud computing in their overall IT strategy.

Community Clouds – In a sure-to-be-popular session, "How & Why the Public Sector is Leading the Way to the Cloud," CloudCamp co-founder Dave Nielsen will be explaining at Cloud Expo New York how the Cloud is moving towards v2.0, in which we are beginning to see "Community Clouds" develop where multiple organizations band together to create a shared Cloud resource.

Edge-to Edge Cloud Security – OpSource CEO Treb Ryan will be joining presenters from companies such as VMware, Cisco and Amazon to discuss the best practices for securing the cloud, comparing and contrasting various approaches for providing edge-to-edge security.

Enterprise Cloud Computing – Having talked about Enterprise Cloud Computing as "The Infrastructure's Ultimate Revenge" in 2009, the CIO of the National Reconnaissance Office, Jill Tummler Singer, will be returning to Cloud Expo this coming June to review the intervening two years and ask if government organizations and corporations are riding a real wave of IT change to the future...or whether both government and corporate IT is caught up in a water spout so far off the shore that no one will feel its impact? Her session will be titled: "Is Enterprise Cloud Computing a Tidal Wave of Change?"

Federal Government Cloud Computing – "What Does GovCloud Mean to the Global IT Industry?" is the question that will be asked by ever-popular Cloud Expo speaker Kevin Jackson in his June session. Jackson will be exploring the economic impact of GovCloud from the position of the information technology and professional services industries. It will also discuss the new business strategies best suited to this new environment.

Java EE in the Cloud – In a session entitled "Running Your Java EE Applications in the Cloud," Oracle's Java EE & GlassFish Guy, Arun Gupta, will be showing how to create a simple Java EE 6 sample application and deploy it on GlassFish v3 running locally, then deploy it using Amazon, RightScale, Joyent, and Elastra cloud infrastructures

Monetizing the Cloud – Mark Skilton, Global Director of Global Application Outsourcing at Capgemini will be providing guidance on the monetization strategies, new business models to adopt and value propositions for cloud computing. With his co-presenter Penelope Everall Gordon, co-founder of 1Plug Corporation, Skilton will be defining what the levers are for competitive advantage using cloud technology and what business metrics consumers of cloud services and providers of those services need to focus on. Their session is titled: Monetization Strategies for Cloud Computing Services.

SOA in the Cloud – In a case study session on moving towards a service-oriented approach, Paul Robbins - Software Manager at NYTimes.com - will be covering the hurdles of moving to a service-based approach and will discuss how this reduces many other infrastructure concerns and provides flexibility when determining a server environment.

The Transactional Cloud – Successful cloud integration - that's to say, integration that scales with the needs of the enterprise - will be the biggest business in the cloud. But it requires fundamentally new architectures and approaches: that is where Agile Cloud Integration comes in. In his session, Simeon Simeonov. CEO of FastIgnite, will discuss how we can avoid the mistakes of the past.

Vendor Lock-in – One session that is certain to be crowded at Cloud Expo New York is " Cloud Users of the World, Unite!" to be given by Gregor Petri from CA Technologies. Using examples and analogies from both the IT and other industries, Petri will dissect cloud lock-in into its archetypes and look at possible architectural, organizational and commercial remedies. His aim? To find common ground and make the cloud "lock-in free."

Zero Latency – In his Cloud Expo New York session, The Race Towards Zero: Reducing Latency to Real Real-Time, the CTO of Sybase, Irfan Khan, will be discussing current approaches towards achieving a zero-latency environment and expanding delegates' knowledge on how to exploit this technology to their advantage.
