Using a three step preferred rating system analyzed each vehicle’s MSRP value, depreciation and ownership costs, and safety. Of all the units in the evaluation, the “best value” vehicles received the highest overall rating in their respective segments, providing the best financial value.

To determine the winners, the financial services provider weighed key attributes like engine type and safety features to determine whether the vehicles’ MSRPs were a good value. When measuring depreciation and ownership costs, added fuel costs, auto insurance, and extended warranty expenditures were factored in. Extended warranty costs are believed to reflect overall vehicle reliability and total maintenance costs.  To determine the safety rate, only qualified vehicles that received one of the top two safety ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety were used.
