The Unrecognized Geniuses a Truly Geniuse Pod Cast

April 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Staple guns? Breathalyzers? Interviews with headlining comedians and big time directors? Oral sex on a vacuum cleaner, drunk olympics, girls crying, and the list goes on.  Why of course you must be speaking about a show from satellite radio?… NO. NO? Then regular radio? Nope… Then a big time internet radio show? Wrong again.. It’s a pod cast. I can hear you sigh as you read that. If pod casts are the wild west of listening entertainment, and they are, then The Unrecognized Geniuses are Billy The Kid, Jesse James, and Butch Cassidy. Maybe the Dalton gang or whatever wild west outlaw you’d like to insert there.

 “ Radio can’t get away with the things we can, not anymore” says Curt a co-host of the Unrecognized Geniuses. “ Opie and Anthony used to be able to do awesome bits. The 55 gallon drum challenge, The wiffle ball bat challenge,  voyeur bus I mean an endless list of  stunts. But anywhere you have Big talent making big money you have lawyers and guys in suits telling them why they can’t be talented on air. Here we do what we want.” Steve co- host interrupts “But no big money.” They don’t have everything the big guys have. Now I know someone is reading this and saying “this has all been done before!” To that Steve says “you’re damn right it has but we’re having fun and just like a cover band playing a great song we’ll cover a great bit.” Joe the sound FX master and co- host “ who wouldn’t want to see the wiffle ball bat challenge live?” The wiffle ball bat challenge is a famous Opie and Anthony contest. The game is, a female contestants will see how far a plastic bat will go in her… well you could image, I think. “I’ll give O and A all the credit on that one but if a young lady wants to come in and do it I’m going to enjoy the show” adds Curt.

 So they have the wild stunts, and I’ll give them credit even the chops of regular radio, but what about the money? “ It’s not all about money” says Curt “ that’s what you say when you don’t have any”.  Steve continues “ We’re not oppose to cash but right now we’re just having a great time. We’ll have small companies sponsor games but for only a few bucks or a case of beer or something. They like beer, which they consume the whole time they broadcast. They even have the guests of radio Rich Vos, Bobby Kelly and Lloyd Kaufman to name a few. Everything about this show screams radio, but it’s a pod cast. “Honestly I don’t see a difference but where you find it. Instead of a dial it’s a website. Pod casts and internet radio are the future of radio. If that makes sense?” Curt.

 The show is currently approaching their one year anniversary, that’s right they haven’t even been at it a year, how will they celebrate? Like any other pod cast of course with their first road show… A ROAD SHOW!!? For a pod cast? Steve explains “yeah we are heading down to Asbury Park, NJ to do a live show from Tromadance”. Tromadance is a film festival put on by Troma Inc. the creators of the “Toxic Avenger” The UG show will be broadcasting live April 23 from the after party with, as Steve puts it, their “10’s of listeners”.
