April 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The Women’s Breast Health Initiative (WBHI) is proud to announce a unique reminder about the importance of early detection: the B4Pink pendant. The piece has been designed not just as a fashion statement, but as a mission statement.

The nickel-plated B4Pink pendant with black enamel finish features seven brilliant crystals around the text “B4” with a pink accent, representing the one in eight women who be diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s a stunning way for a woman to show her support for breast cancer awareness, early detection, and the need for women to be screened for breast cancer beginning at age 40.

“We want to reach these women, get them screened, and ultimately detect breast cancer when it is treatable and beatable.” says WBHI Founder and Top 10 CNN Hero Andrea Ivory, “We want to help them before they ‘turn pink.’ That’s what the B4Pink movement is all about.”

Because there is no cure for breast cancer, WBHI’s mission is to reduce the incidence of undetected, untreated breast cancer among the some of the most vulnerable in communities: uninsured, underserved women. Teams of volunteers go door to door in neighborhoods with high concentrations of this targeted audience providing breast health awareness, education, free mammograms, referrals for low cost screening, and assistance to those participants requiring additional screening and treatment.

The organization has knocked on more than 33,000 doors since 2006. Additionally, this year WBHI will knock on a record 10,000 doors in South Florida to educate women and ensure that all women benefit from the early detection of breast cancer, regardless of their ability to pay.

One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Even more disturbing, approximately 40,000 women will die of breast cancer this year alone. With so many women at risk, it is crucial to promote early detection any way possible.

“We created this piece of jewelry to not only look beautiful, but to tell a story.” says Ivory. “B4Pink isn’t just a pendant; it’s a movement to generate awareness for early detection.”

As an introductory offer to promote the debut of the pendant, anyone who donates $25 to WBHI will receive a B4Pink pendant that can be worn to remind women about the importance of early detection. All donations go directly to helping uninsured underserved women receive screenings and educational materials about the importance of breast health and early detection right in their own neighborhoods.

The pendant is a lovely addition to a woman’s collection of jewelry, and can become a touching gift for a woman battling the disease or a survivor of breast cancer. It can also be proudly worn by family members, friends and others supporting the cause and the fight for a cure.
