Drawn Together: a visual art exhibition featuring works by Melodie Provenzano and Philippe Simille

The Marketplace Gallery in Albany, NY is pleased to present "Drawn Together", an exhibition of artworks by New York artist Melodie Provenzano and French artist Philippe Simille. The show opens Friday May 6 and will be on view through May 28.

April 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Drawn Together is an exhibit of social study, and presents a look into the window of art and experience. Within and between the works of these two artists, layers of dialogue begin to evolve, tempting a viewer’s choice to observe, create, or even ignore the possibilities of relationships. The interactions may be provocative, whimsical, profound, or even sordid, but they all reflect our larger social network of emotion and motivation.

Melodie Provenzano is inspired by objects, the way they look, and the emotions that they suggest. Each balanced still-life world that this artist builds, and then renders, all resonate with something true inside of her. Little toy apples suggest a traditional still-life, a miniature plaster head suggests classical art history, and the toy microphone is an instrument to project meaning and expression louder for everyone to hear. Her meticulous drawings and paintings create mock dramas that build narrative momentum when the audience assigns meaning to their relationships. Provenzano is represented by Lions Wier Gallery and has exhibited in numerous national group shows and art fairs. Her talent has been commissioned by Chanel, DKNY, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and for various album covers. She was born in Hudson, NY and currently lives and works in New York.

Philippe Simille acts as a “pictorial journalist” and exposes us to a personal and intuitive depiction of the ordinary world. His ambiguous human figures, animals, heteroclite monsters and objects abound invite us to discover and reflect on the kindnesses, cruelties, delirium and sometimes, the tasty indiscretions of humanity. The societal relationships formed in his paintings and collages are both amusing and agitating. Simille has exhibited in Paris, Geneva and Barcelona. He was born in Paris in 1957, and he currently lives and works in Valmorel, France.

Fabienne Powell is currently the Exhibition Coordinator at the Opalka Gallery (Albany, NY) and is working toward a Masters Degree in Museum Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
