Ex-Heroin Addict Graduates as EMT

April 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Adele, a registered EMT, spends most of her time helping people.  At the age of 20 years old, you could say that she's more "on-track" than most young adults.  And yet only two years ago she was abusing heroin.

"I started using heroin after a knee surgery when I was 16," she said.  "My longest period of clean time I had ever reached was just under two months.  I have had 5 overdoses."  Adele's last overdose was a flat-line.  CPR brought her back to life.

The next day, her family helped her enroll at Narconon Riverbend Retreat.  She knew that perhaps this was her last chance at life.  She had to kick the habit or it was going to be her end.

"Not a lot of people understand the pain and anger behind addiction," said Adele.  "Narconon staff did."

After successfully completing her rehab program, Adele enrolled in EMT school.  She graduated with 100% attendance.

"A few weeks ago," she said, "the ambulance I was in picked up two people who I had previously gotten high with in my drug using days.  Both of them had overdosed, and unfortunately neither of them made it out of my ambulance alive."
