By: Meg Kimmel, HopeWell Cancer Support Show your support for people coping all types of cancer and remember those who have been lost to this disease on Sunday, April 17th. Run, jog or walk the 5K course through the scenic campus of Goucher College in Towson. The 5K run/walk begins at 8:30. Charm City Run manages this event. This year, HopeWell is pleased to introduce a new 1-mile Walk with Hope. Completing the 1-mile course through the “victory chute” will serve as an important symbolic victory for many as well as provide families with young children a new way to participate in the event. A magician, face-painters and balloon artists will entertain children and adults alike. The Walk with Hope begins at 8:35 am. Big turnout expected Many HopeWell participants are supported at REACHOUT & RUN by teams. There will be 48 teams participating in the event this Sunday, April 17th. The largest team — Team Sonntag — has grown to an whopping 167 members… all walking and running in support of Dawn Sonntag, a 14-year cancer veteran. For the first time this year, HopeWell will welcome 5 school-based teams: Kenwood High School, Hereford Middle School, The Park School, The Day School at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and Mt. St. Joseph’s High School, whose team is walking in support of their President, Brother James Kelly. Brother James will be the keynote speaker at the Survivors Ceremony, which takes place after the race. This event is HopeWell’s largest annual outreach and fundraising event. Last year, over 1,000 people participated, and over $120,000 was raised to support HopeWell’s programs. Registrations, teams and donations are all tracking higher in 2011. We anticipate breaking last year’s records on April 17th.
