Apple Accessory Supplier IThrough Using Twitter To Raise Funds For Charity Group

Apple accessories shop iThrough is basing the money it gives to the non-government organization Grassroots on the frequency a message is retweeted on Twitter.

The charity group offers administration and online support to over 3,560 charities across Canada, the US and Africa at no charge.

Services provided by the organization are worth an average of $10,000 a year per group and according to iThrough public relations manager, Carol Chang, it allows organizations to reach new audiences while allowing them to spend time doing what they are most effective at.

“It is vital in today’s online world for charities to have some form of digital presence,” said Mrs Chang. “People at grassroots excel at all of the areas involved in building that, from SEO to social media."

Grassroots was named as one of the 50 top nonprofits by blog greatnonprofits last year due to their ability to build profiles online.

According to Carol Chang iPhone accessories supplier iThrough wanted to acknowledge Grassroots’ web 2.0 presence and so set up a campaign where the final donation figure would be measured on how many times a message was retweeted.

The iPod accessories seller will give 50cents to Grassroots every time the message RT #helpithroughhelp and @ithrough will #donate 50c to was retweeted.

Carol Chang, the Public Relations manager for iThrough said the ecommerce supplier wanted to give back to the online world which had given it so much.

"iThrough may have only been online since February but the company behind it has been growing since 2006 on the back of a loyal customer base."

Mrs Chang said the China accessories source hoped to raise more than 200 USD in the drive.

“We hope that the message will be retweeted at least 500 times,” said Mrs Chang. “Grassroots can do a lot with very little money so we want to make sure we give them the most possible.”
