Great summer jobs available for Douglas County teens

Teens in Douglas County, CO, have an opportunity to make some money, work outside and make a difference in our water future, thanks to a program offered by the Douglas County Water Resource Authority.
April 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The Douglas County Water Resource Authority (DCWRA) is pleased to announce a summer job opportunity for area high school students.  Minimum age to apply for a job is 16.  High school students (youth) will be scheduled for no more than 25 hours per week.  Wage offered is $7.36 per hour. Training will begin approximately May 31st, and work will end approximately August 5th.  This opportunity is for 2011 only. An open house describing the youth jobs will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday April 16th at the offices of the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber’s office is immediately east of the Safeway store located at I-25 and Castle Pines Parkway.  (This is Exit 188 off I-25.)  After a brief presentation describing the jobs and the retrofit program, representatives of DCWRA will be on hand to answer youth and parent questions about the job opportunity.  Job applications will be considered after the open house.

Duties surround working as a crew member to retrofit rotary nozzles in sprinkler systems in approximately 1,000 yards in the DCWRA area this summer.  (This area is typically Douglas County, plus areas served by East Cherry Creek Valley Water and Sanitation District, and Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater Authority.)  The retrofits will consist or removing old nozzles from existing sprinkler heads, and replacing them with new design nozzles, and checking sprinkler systems for proper alignment and operation.  The new rotary sprinkler nozzles may be up to 30% more efficient in their use of water than traditional sprinkler head designs.  Join with DCWRA in pursuit of “Serious Conservation, Serious Results”.

Youth crew members will be supervised by adult team leaders, and receive training if selected for the program.  The training will cover basic jobs skills and tasks required to complete the retrofits, as well as alerting youth to the types of jobs and careers that may be available in the water industry in the future.  This opportunity is made available under a grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board.  Partners with DCWRA on this opportunity include Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Workforce Center and the Work to School Alliance Program at the Douglas County School District.
