April 4, 2011 - PRLog -- April 2, 2011 – San Diego, Ca – San Diego Boca FC set the tone to start the 2011 NPSL season with a victory over division rival Real San Jose with a 2-1 thriller at Balboa Stadium on Saturday night in front of a boisterous crowd of 839.
Justin Picou scored on a header in the closing minutes of the match on a screaming cross from the left side from Danny Torre to ice the game and seal a victory for the home squad.

The entire first half was controlled by a strong and determined Boca side. Leading on shots taken 8-1, Boca put in their first goal on a scramble in front of the San Jose net. Luis Ponce popped the ball into space and it was knocked in by forward Carlos Lopez.

The second half brought about a reenergized San Jose team, who took off at full speed and quickly matched the shot total set by Boca. More than once, Boca Goalkeeper Steve Gonzalez lept to knock away a shot heading for the back of the net. Finally, in the 86th minute, San Jose connected a long series of clean passes and knocked in the equalizer.

This lit a fire under San Diego Boca, and the team rallied with a second wind. Justin Picou’s efforts up and down the field moved him all the way from the back to a key spot in front of the San Jose net just as Danny Torre’s cross-field pass arced to the perfect spot.

Papo Santos Head Coach commented, “We were lucky to pull of the victory but it was a well deserved win as the guys worked hard all game and came through when they needed. Once we let San Jose tie the game late, the guys put it into overdrive and we immediately started creating scoring chances but we had to do it quick. Justin put in a nice goal for the fans and give credit to Danny Torre for a very nice ball from the left side.”
