Royal Mail Stamps to Feature Endangered Animals

April 6, 2011 - PRLog -- The animals in the world today need all the help they can get and a real boost has just emerged with the news that a new set of Royal Mail stamps will be released, with these stamps featuring the images of some of the world’s most threatened animals.

There are a number of sites which highlight the work of animal charities, such as http://www.animaladoptions.org.uk, and these charities do carry out some excellent work. Without them we would be seeing many more animals right on the verge of extinction.

However, as one would expect, the funds that animal charities obtain tend to go straight onto the front line to help with enforcing anti-poaching regulations and preventing illegal logging. Therefore the campaign to raise awareness of endangered animals falls on the shoulders of other organisations, usually government bodies, who at the moment can’t afford to fund campaigns heavily because of the huge government deficit that needs to be plugged. Therefore the help of the Royal Mail is a massive boost.

Asian Elephants, as seen below, are one animal which is to be featured heavily across the range of stamps. Unfortunately poaching has decimated the species, with hunters doing everything to get hold of their horns.

There are around 35,000 Asian Elephants still alive today but given that this figure was several hundreds of thousands a century ago it’s not good.

Other animals to be included on the stamps are the Iberian lynx, the most endangered big cat on the planet today, the Red Panda, an animal which is struggling for the same reasons as those for the Giant Panda, and the Polar Bear.
