April 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Online one-stop-shop for money saving green products My Greener Home have a new product in stock that claims to cut your heating bills by almost a third. The Pegler Terrier i-temp i-30 is a programmable radiator controller that replaces the head of your existing Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV). As well as saving serious amounts on heating bills, in independent tests the i-temp reduced an average household’s carbon emissions by a staggering 64kg a week. My Greener Home Director Edwin Lloyd explained the research behind the savings:

“There are an awful lot of products claiming to be green out there, but when I find one that genuinely delivers, it makes my day. I got quite excited when I first heard about what had been going on during the testing phase for this product. The manufacturers, Pegler Yorkshire, teamed up with Longhurst Housing to test what the i-temp would actually deliver. They compared 2 identical 3 bed terraced houses, both with seven radiators. One had conventional Thermostatic Radiator Valves fitted; the other had radiators with the i-temp installed. The results were astonishing. They calculated the house with the i-temp would be saving over £50 a month more than the one with classic styled TRVs. That’s quite incredible for something that sells at under £30.”

The i-temp replaces the head of your existing TRV and can be fitted in minutes. It comes with batteries and full simple instructions. Edwin explained how ‘zoning’ with it cuts household bills:

“It allows you to control the temperature in individual rooms.  You can programme it using one of the two pre-set options or customise your heating schedule to exactly match your lifestyle. The idea is that if you are heating rooms that are empty at certain times of the day, you are undoubtedly losing money. Bedrooms are a good example, they don’t need heat while you’re out on a work day.  Similarly, you don’t use your living room overnight, so why waste money heating it when it’s empty? But of course you equally need those rooms heated right when you use them, and the i-Temp automatically does it all for you”.

The most common configuration for the i-temp is the i-30, which will fit a vertical Thermostatic Radiator Valve. It’s supplied with three different adaptors, making it suitable for many types of radiator motor valve. Edwin explained why it made it into his online eco range:

“You might tell yourself you’ll always remember to turn the radiator valve off but the chances are you’ll forget. Instead, you programme the i-temp to do it automatically for you, and it will do without fail. Its perfect for people with busy lifestyles - realistically, we’re probably all never going to stick to our good intentions to turn this off, turn that on and so on. Another plus is it will do it all for you on the night that you’re out but everyone else is home. I don’t think any of us would say no to £50 less on heating bills, and this gives you a realistic shot at doing just that”.
