March 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Baltimore, March 30, 2011: HopeWell Cancer Support’s REACHOUT & RUN 5K and 1-mile Walk with Hope will raise awareness and funds to support programs for people with cancer — and their loved ones — right here in Baltimore.

Show your support for people coping all types of cancer and remember those who have been lost to this disease on Sunday, April 17th. Run, jog or walk the 5K course through the scenic campus of Goucher College in Towson. The 5K run/walk begins at 8:30. Charm City Run manages this event.

This year, HopeWell is pleased to introduce a new 1-mile Walk with Hope. Completing the 1-mile course through the “victory chute” will serve as an important symbolic victory for many as well as provide families with young children a new way to participate in the event. A magician, face-painters and balloon artists will entertain children and adults alike. The Walk with Hope begins at 8:35 am.

Big turnout expected
Many REACHOUT & RUN participants are supported by teams. Janet Miller’s family and friends have been coming to REACHOUT & RUN for the past 8 years, as a way of supporting her as she continues to set and reach new milestones in her cancer journey. The 2010 event was especially memorable for the captain of the 22-member Team Miller Time.

“I was dragging, really dragging,” said Janet. “I was walking the 5k course and debating if I had the energy to finish or not. I looked up at the finish line and my two sons were there waiting for me. They both took a hand and they carried me over that finish line. They literally lifted me up! I’ll never forget that moment. It was magical.”

REACHOUT & RUN is a magical day for many in our community. Over 50 teams are expected to participate this year with the largest team, and the top three fundraising teams, all winning prizes.

This event is HopeWell’s largest annual outreach and fundraising event. Last year, over 1,200 people participated, and over $135,000 was raised to support HopeWell’s programs. Registrations, teams and donations are all tracking higher in 2011. We anticipate breaking last year’s records on April 17th.
