New site: live video, Twitter commentary feed & URL shortener, all on one page
POLS.US started as a URL shortener for politics but blossoms today by adding a live streaming video feed of the NYS Senate, combined with a streaming Twitter feed for its #POLUS hashtag, with watching, Tweeting & sharing all on the same page.

"Obviously, the concept works for anything, but the political angle was what triggered the idea," said Bill Purkins, founder and owner of the OneCent.US Group of Companies, which is a free URL shortener itself, in addition to being parent company to sixty plus other web sites that provide a variety of marketing, promotional, social media, computer and writing services, including press releases and news, publicity and brand development as well as publishing over one million words last year in SEO content.
"POLS.US is just the first," Purkins said this evening. "We're excited. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day as we pick and choose our other early efforts. First will be a Lauren Francesca site where fans will be able to share in real time their comments on her extremely popular new YouTube channel http://YouTube.com/
Ms. Francesca is a film actress and popular Internet viral video star who recently became a YouTube partner, and whose videos made for the Key of Awesome, Barely Political and producers such as veteran comedy writer Jeffrey Gurian and NYC actor of Law and Order note Walter Masterson have attracted over one hundred million views. Lauren launched her own YouTube channel on Valentine's Day 14Feb2011 to rave reviews, and she also serves as the lead OneCent.US Charity Ambassador, supporting a number of charitable efforts that the companies use celebrity endorsements to raise awareness of and encourage donations to.
The technique Purkins' company uses is to embed a streaming video feed or selected videos or playlist on a site and combine that with one of its URL shorteners, in this case POLS.US, which was built to facilitate sharing of first NY State political Tweets for the Senate and Assembly in Albany but with plans to expand to other states as well as a national political version. This was sparked by Purkins just having signed on at Examiner.com as their Albany NY Politcal Buzz writer, which can be seen at http://www.examiner.com/
A selected hashtag on Twitter is then used in all Tweets originating from the site, which are made from the same page as the video that is being watched, so effectively, a user is able to watch a live Senate session, comment on it in real time and see a scroll of not only one's own Tweets but also those of any others, sort of a defacto chat room if you will. The URL shortener defaults to shortening the URL for POLS.US site itself, but so interested Twitter users are able to join the crowd, but like any URL shortener one can type or paste in any other URLs to be shortened and then shared.
"Tomorrow, after we get Lauren's site up and going, we'll also fire up a few other choice and topical themes, all intended to provide a real impact to show off the power of the technique. This has tremendous potential for YouTube or in promoting any new video where comments are high in numbers as they generally are in the beginning, as in the case of today's YouTube, comments are asynchronous to one another, while this is a real time feel. We have a number of ideas we are looking forward to testing the waters on. It;s going to be fun."
