DJ Spooky Remixes Bach for Blank Book by Schneiderman

March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Seattle-based publisher Jaded Ibis Press [Visit http://jadedibisproductions.com for details] set up new headquarters in the historic OK Hotel Studios. The move is significant because of the Hotel’s history as the place where Nirvana first performed Smells Like Teen Spirit (April 17, 1991) and where, now, musicians and producers like Vitamin D ad OC Notes maintain studios alongside painters like Eric Swangstu who runs the art gallery and is working to revitalize the Hotel’s music roots.  
   The Press is merging music and art with books in an effort to create dialogs between artists in different media. For example, DJ Spooky created three original “soundtracks” for Davis Schneiderman’s novel Blank, remixing Bach’s “Goldberg Variations 1-3”. Blank, by the way, is a 200-page work of fiction containing only 20 evocative chapter titles and stunning pyrographic (burnt) drawings by artist Susan White.  [Visit http://jadedibisproductions.com/BLANK.html for details]
   “We’ve been living in a multimedia world for over two decades,” says founding publisher Debra Di Blasi.  “Everyone with a computer understands aesthetic integration, and most people expect it.  What’s culturally important are the conversations that arise from these marriages, not just between the collaboration artists but also from their readers, listeners and viewers, too.”

⎯   Former Blatz punker Anna Joy Springer, with Tara Jane O’Neil and Rachel Carnes, created 14 tracks of “punk soundscapes” for Springer’s fabulist memoir, The Vivious Red Relic, Love
⎯   Ron Heckert of Tornado in A Jar worked with Carlos DeLeon (The Blank Stares) and vocalist Betsy Carney on “Ready To Burn”, for Lily Hoang’s story collection, Unfinished
⎯   Brooklyn’s Stethoscope is composing new music for J.A. Tyler’s and John Dermot Woods’ novel, No One Told Me I Was Going To Disappear
⎯   Patch (founding member of live P.A. group, Heavyweight Dub Champion) is composing new music for c.vance’s book, We: A Reimagined Family History
⎯   Kristine Barrett Johnson is composing new music for The Color of Being Born: Paintings by Michael Cadieux, with environmental writing by various contributors
