When More is Better: Large Food Manufacturer Automates Palletization for Their Production Lines

A sauce and food topping manufacturer gains flexibility and cost savings with a robotic palletizing system.

March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Ashland, VA — A large food manufacturer based in Canada has installed robotic palletizers from Flexicell in order to palletize cases of product. For most of the production lines, a single-line palletizer was installed. A simpler solution than a centralized palletizer where one robot would be used on all lines, this method provided the manufacturer many benefits.

When the food manufacturer needed to automate palletization for 6 of their production lines, they chose a flexible solution that would allow them to run cases of varying heights and to redeploy systems in the future. By having multiple robotic palletizers, they also saved hundreds of thousands of dollars and lots of floorspace. For two lines located close to one another, a palletizer capable of handling two lines at once was implemented. For the other four lines, a standard single-line palletizer was installed. These simple systems have proven to be adaptable to changes in the facility.

Robotic palletizers provide a flexibility legacy palletizers can’t provide, such as the ability to handle new case sizes and pallet patterns. For large manufacturers that have many production lines that aren’t located close to one another, installing multiple simple automation systems may be the best solution.
