New Market Study Published: United Kingdom Commercial Banking Report Q2 2011

March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Fragile Recovery  The UK banking sector is on the road to recovery, but like the broader economy, remains in a state of  fragility. The government's fiscal consolidation programme and the eurozone debt crisis will be powerful  headwinds for 2011, though still loose monetary policy from the Bank of England will provide a  modicum of support.  Alongside the broad recovery in economic activity, the UK banking sector is similarly in recuperation  mode following the financial crisis. We forecast the UK banking sector to grow by 3.5% in 2011,  accelerating to 5.0% in 2012. Much like the economy, we believe that UK banks remain fragile despite  the improvement in global liquidity and synonymously investor confidence.  A key stress point this year will be the government's fiscal consolidation programme, which having been  proposed in 2010, will now start to gain traction. Public sector job losses will mount and contracts with  the private sector will be lost, underpinning high cyclical unemployment and weaker revenues for some  firms reliant on government spending. This in turn could risk a deterioration in loan quality for the  banking industry.
