March 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Alpha Tek, LLC has recently launched a new informational website called >Become A Pharmacy Technician visit  The website aims to provide information about the pharmaceutical industry, a pharmacy technician’s roles and responsibility, as well as details on how to become a pharmacy technician.

The pharmaceutical industry is booming, and a long future is promising for pharmacy technicians.  America is becoming more dependent on pharmaceutical drugs and medications as age progresses.  Even in times of recession, medication is still a requirement for many people, and the demand on pharmacists can be overwhelming.  A pharmacy technician will assist in processing prescriptions and other health care products, serving customers, and other administrative tasks such as answering phones, inventory, and so on, which allows the pharmacists to concentrate on the prescriptions.  A pharmacy technician will also help the pharmacist with routine tasks, such as labeling bottles or counting tablets.  The main purpose of a pharmacy technician is to handle all the administrative tasks, and the routine tasks, so that the pharmacist can perform their duties accurately…dispensing medication is very serious work.

The requirements to become a pharmacy technician will vary from state to state, as will the responsibilities, but in most cases the pharmacy tech will receive prescriptions over the counter or via email, which they must verify is accurate.  After it is verified, the technician will prepare the prescription medication, as well as the labels, and select the appropriate container for the medication.  Once the prescription is ready, the pharmacy tech must price and file the prescription before handing it to the pharmacist to be checked.  Once the pharmacist approves the medication and the prescription, it can then be given to the customer.  A technician will also create and maintain customer profiles, will take stock and inventory, and prepare insurance claim forms.

To become a pharmacy technician, you will need to enroll in a Pharmacy Technician program, and pass the certification exam.  Many states do not require certification for pharmacy technicians, however, formal training is highly advised.  Having a certification can make the difference in getting hired, as well as your yearly salary, many professionals will tell you that a certification can mean more.

Employers know that people that pass the certification exam are knowledgeable and skilled, and employers are more likely to hire the certified technician over the uncertified technician.   Once you’re a certified pharmacy technician, you will need to renew your certification every 2 years, and complete a specified number of hours at a continuing education at a college, or with a pharmacy association. The two organizations that provide pharmacy technician certification are the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. If you are wondering what the requirements to become a pharmacy technician are, at the minimum a high school diploma or GED is needed to complete the certification exam.
