Trafalgar Elementary Collects Donations for Goodwill

Elementary students in Cape Coral collect donations in a "Good To Go" drive to benefit their community and Goodwill, spurring 11 additional schools to partner with Goodwill . Resale of the items will generate revenue for the agency.

March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Some Cape Coral grade school students learned a valuable lesson in giving back to the community in March, as Trafalgar Elementary School hosted a “Good to Go” donation drive for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida (http://www.goodwillswfl.org).

“Our student council took this on as a community service project,” says Trafalgar Elementary Principal Marie Vetter.  “We wholeheartedly embrace the mission of Goodwill, and I think it was successful for our first year.  We keep going all year with good causes.  The philosophy is to start them thinking beyond themselves.”

The Trafalgar students brought in a total of 103 donations, including clothing, housewares, and even sporting goods for Goodwill during the Good to Go drive.  Donations are re-sold in Goodwill’s Retail & Donation Centers (http://www.goodwillswfl.org) to generate revenue for the agency’s mission of helping people with disabilities and other disadvantages.

Eleven more Lee County schools, ranging from pre-schools to high schools, will host Goodwill donation drives this spring.

“We’re excited that so many schools want to team up with us,” says Kirsten O’Donnell, Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations.  “This is our first year, so we wanted to start small, but then schools kept contacting us wanting to join in. Next thing we knew, we had a dozen schools.”

The next school to participate is Caloosa Elementary School, also in Cape Coral.  They will collect donations for Goodwill from April 4-8.
