March 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Save A Dog, Inc, a non-profit humane society committed to placing rescued and abandoned dogs in loving, approved homes, has created a unique way for dog lovers to honor their pets and raise money for the organization’s annual fundraiser.  On Sunday, May 22, Save A Dog will host the 11th Annual Paws in the Park event at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn in Sudbury.  Paws in the Park offers exciting activities for all members of the family – canine included – while raising funds to help homeless dogs. Even those unable to attend can participate in the festivities by becoming virtual walkers and raising money for the dogs by creating an online Pet Pledge Page.

Individual pledge pages can be created by visiting the Save A Dog website at http://www.saveadog.org/paws2011-pledges.asp and entering the participant’s name, message, and pet photo. Participants can link to their pet pledge page through email, LinkedIn, Facebook, or business website, making it easier for participants to reach friends and family who may wish to donate through the page, and simplifying the donation process.

“The personal pledge pages are a great way to spread the word about our Paws in the Park event and help us raise much needed funds for homeless dogs,” said Shirley Moore, President of Save A Dog. “Our volunteers, as well as the public, can have fun creating a personal page with their pet’s photos; it is a great way to reach out to potential donors.”

                                                               About Save A Dog, Inc.
In 1999, after volunteering at local shelters and seeing the detrimental effect that kennel life had on some dogs, Shirley Moore and her husband Dave Bernier, chose to launch a humane society that included a strong network of volunteer foster homes for the dogs that they take in from local, as well as overcrowded remote shelters. They founded Save A Dog as an all-volunteer, all-breed rescue group, running out of their home in Wayland, MA. Over the past 12 years, Save A Dog has grown to more than 100 volunteers and has placed more than 3800 dogs in good, safe homes.

Save A Dog uses a holistic approach to the treatment of animals and provides education to adopters and the dog-loving public on how to maintain a healthy dog with holistic food, supplements, and natural remedies. The organization’s goals also include educating people about pet overpopulation and encouraging pet adoptions. One out of every three dogs that ends up in a shelter is a purebred, yet many people in the community buy dogs from breeders, unaware that a there is a surplus of homeless dogs, including purebreds. The society’s reach has also expanded to shelters in the southern states where the plight of abandoned dogs is exceptionally heart-breaking. Save A Dog works to transport dogs from these shelters up to Massachusetts where they have a better chance of finding a home. The organization prides itself on providing adoptable dogs to the people of MetroWest Boston, and throughout all of New England.

In addition to the adoption program, Save A Dog offers puppy kindergarten and dog obedience during the summer months. Foster homes and adopters are always needed, and, as a non-profit organization, Save A Dog relies on fundraising and voluntary contributions to operate. To learn more about how to help, or if you have any questions, please call 978-443-7282 or visit www.saveadog.org.  Save A Dog is located at 604 Boston Post Road, Route 20, Sudbury, MA.
