Author Proves More Guns, Less Crime

(Richmond, VA) - Economic Expert, Columnist for FOX News, American Academic and Conservative Political Commentator and Author John Lott, Jr. last year released the third edition of  "More Guns, Less Crime" (University of Chicago Press, 2010), which represents the largest statistical analysis of crime ever conducted.

With the administration indicating that President Obama will soon have a major address to push more gun control and legislation moving forward in South Dakota requiring that all adults in that state own a gun, the book couldn't be more timely.

The Obama administration has been quietly using its administrative powers to enact a ban on semi-automatic rifles being imported into the US as well as moving towards imposing stricter standards than the Assault Weapon Ban on the importation of shotguns.

The book provides a thorough analysis of not only the impact on crime of the Federal Assault Weapon Ban (both its enactment in 1994 as well as its sunset in 2004) but also the six state assault weapon bans.  It also examines the impact of the Federal Brady and state background checks and also states that mandate background checks on the private transfers of guns (closing the so-called "gun show loophole").

"A compelling book with enough hard evidence that even politicians have to stop and pay attention.  More Guns, Less Crime is an exhaustive analysis of the effect of gun possession on crime rates" - James Bovard, Wall Street Journal

What Lott found is that more guns mean less crime.  Those places such as Chicago and Washington, DC, which banned guns, saw dramatic increases in murder and violent crime rates.  When their bans ended their murder and violent rates fell.  But the deleterious effect of a ban isn't just limited to the United States.  Even when entire countries or island nations with easily defendable borders and no neighbors to blame have banned guns murder rates haven't fallen.  Indeed, murder rates have usually risen dramatically after a ban.  Bans primarily disarm law-abiding citizens, not criminals, and they make it easier for criminals to commit crime.

Despite the high praise, the book also received tough criticism from gun control activists, but despite their argument they can't refute Lott's finding that more guns mean less crime.

This book is compiled on incredible research and statistics found in reputable places like government research and crime reports.  The data for this book spans a decade, and includes analysis of gun banned cities like Chicago and Washington D.C. and other countries around the world.

"John Lott documents how far "politically correct" vested interests are willing to go to denigrate anyone who disagrees with them.  Lott has done us all a service by his thorough, thoughtful, scholarly approach to a highly controversial issue"  - Milton Friedman

Lott's compelling argument has caught national attention with this book.  You won't find a more thoroughly researched book about gun control anywhere.
