March 25, 2011 - PRLog -- When we talk about turkeys the first thing that comes to mind is Thanksgiving! You may not know it, but turkeys are more than just a yummy treat for this special occasion. Turkeys are smart animals; in fact they can be raised as pets! So let?s talk about raising turkeys on pasture. Wondering what?s it all about? Read on.

If you are interested in growing these animals as pets then you have two alternatives to choose from.  You can either raise domestic or wild turkeys. Go for domesticated type of turkeys if you are planning to raise them for income. Choose wild turkeys if you want to raise them as pets. Sounds odd! Well you see, just because they are called wild doesn?t necessarily mean that they are dangerous. In fact, studies have shown that wild turkeys are more intelligent compared to the domesticated ones. This is the reason why most individuals prefer to raise these breeds as pets.

Whatever your preference for raising turkeys, there are important things you need to take note of. Adjusting feeds is very essential. In order to make your turkeys grow healthier and stronger you need to choose the right type of feeds to give them. This will not just fatten them up but more importantly will optimize their meat for eating. Their space is also a key factor in raising these animals as pets. Conduct necessary adjustments or changes to your yard or whatever coop you are planning to use. Make sure that it will accommodate such animal. It should be safe and free from potential dangers such as open holes and chicken wires.

Of course, you will need to provide them the time and attention they need. Sounds pretty obvious? Not quite. One of the mistakes turkey owners make is taking them for granted. Turkeys are very social animals and love to interact. When you become more comfortable interacting with your pet turkey you will see just how these birds return your love and attention.

Raising turkeys on pasture need not be so difficult. With the right knowledge about these smart birds you will never go wrong.
