March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Houston, TX -  Members and guests of the British-American Business Council Houston will enjoy all the excitement and luxury of Royal Ascot Day in the suites overlooking the racetrack at  the Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, 14 May.

Royal Ascot Day is the most glamorous sporting day in UK and is known as much for the fashions worn as the horse racing itself.  It is a tradition dating back to 1711 when Queen Anne spotted an area of open heath, not far from Windsor Castle, that looked an ideal place for “horses to gallop at full stretch”.  The first race was held 11 August, 1711.  The race is still run today and a plate given in Queen Anne's memory.

Festivities for the BABC's version of Ascot start at 5 pm with a champagne reception, sponsored by Wood Group,  to toast Her Majesty the Queen's birthday and the newlywed Royal couple, William and Catherine.   A buffet dinner will be served followed by an evening of live racing and betting.

Ladies in summer frocks and exotic hats will vie for the Best Ladies Hat prize.  Gentlemen will compete for Best Dressed Gent in everything from lounge and morning suits to kilts.  Competition in these annual contests is almost as fierce as the contest on the race track.

The event is open to BABC members and non-members.  Tickets are available at http://babchouston.org/en/cev/315 or by calling the BABC office at 832.351.3940.
