The clothes in Valentino’s A/W 2011-12 prêt-à-porter collection celebrate the uniqueness and culture of couture. Their distinctive, clean lines and slightly flared silhouettes make a striking statement and are enhanced by exclusive abstract and geometric prints, lace inserts and ruching. They blend menswear touches and feminine details, opaque patterns and transparent textures, intense colours and subtle hues.

Each piece features unique inserts and intarsia and unusual combinations and contrasts, evoking favourite moments, ideas, and images from the many seasons of classic Valentino style that Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli cherish. There is a V-necked cashmere knit and fabric coat and also suits with a cardigan jacket and knee-length flared skirt. Tromp-l'oeil feathers are printed on chiffon or on pony leather exclusively used for dresses or coordinated with outerwear. Chemises for day and night alternate or layer Chantilly lace squares and herringbone or houndstooth motifs, floral macramé or pleated leather and impalpable chiffon.

Very long or knee-length dresses have fitted bodices, long full sleeves, and collars with bows. Cinched at the waist with a narrow belt, their sophisticated flared skirts sway gracefully with each movement. Macramé flowers in pastel shades are applied to Chantilly lace with striking geometric motifs. Intarsia and knitted patterns create three-dimensional textures. Lace and chiffon squares produce chiaroscuro effects. Chevron motifs become three-dimensional when embellished with bugle beads and ruching.

All these pieces are the unquestionable stars of an alluringly sleek and sensuously fluid and impalpable wardrobe in shades ranging from ivory, pale yellow and powder beige to aqua, brick red, dark red and midnight blue. The look is completed with high heels in neutral shades of beige with a fine web-like ankle strap of black leather.
