Recently released market study: Israel Defence & Security Report Q2 2011

Fast Market Research recommends "Israel Defence & Security Report Q2 2011" from Business Monitor International, now available

March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- The political landscape in Israel continues its fragile balancing act of progressing the resolution of external issues while trying to meet the needs of its own constituencies. These can be at polar opposites and therefore there is tension. Israel faces a series of inter-related and interlocking demands and threats.

Looking outward, we see that Hamas still remains tightly in control over Gaza and there is a reasonable likelihood that Hamas and Hizbullah will renew their conflict at some point soon. Talks between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank have made no progress. There is an increasing risk of the talks being taken over by more radical elements and Hizbullah remains a threat, operating as it does with Iranian backing. Iran continues to develop its nuclear programme and there is much public debate over the merits of a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Despite all this, this only means the current security situation is unchanged from one quarter to the next and, in the short-term, we see no reason for it to change. The 'Middle East Security Overview' section of this report contains an analysis of three alternative medium-term scenarios which describe how the present environment might evolve.

Israel's economy is doing well. The country's high-technology and developed manufacturing sector may well continue to improve export growth in the long run. In the short term, however, export growth will be impacted by soft demand from the still struggling eurozone.

Unsurprisingly, Israel's defence industry is substantial. The scale of the industry means that the country has developed extensive technological advancement, such as counter-terrorism and surveillance products. This provides opportunities for custom elsewhere, such as Turkey and India, both of which have significant requirements. Israel is now India's second largest defence supplier. There are a significant number of local firms and many of the key multinational players also maintain a presence. Many of the local companies manufacture components rather than complete platforms. Israel is also an importer of larger items such as surface ships and warplanes.
