Carton Manufacturer Packages Green Product with Green Operations

SIG Combibloc, a leading system supplier of carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food, has extended its commitment to environmental responsibility by joining the Green Business Bureau.

March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- March 21, 2011 HOUSTON –Thinking and acting in a way that is ecologically advantageous are an inherent part of SIG Combibloc’s global corporate strategy. SIG Combibloc has set several ambitious targets to focus firmly on environmental commitment. As a part of our environmental strategy to pursue responsible forestry, SIG Combibloc had achieved Chain of Custody (CoC) certification at all of our world-wide production sites in accordance with the standards established by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC). By 2015, the company plans to have reduced CO2 emissions in its production plants world-wide by 40 per cent, energy consumption by 35 per cent and specific waste volumes by 25 per cent. It is also planned to increase the percentage of FSC-labeled carton packs to 40 per cent by 2015.

Joining the GBB is a natural progression to SIG Combibloc’s commitment to the environment. With clear global company targets for environmental responsibility, it is only natural to instill the same efforts within the individual office communities. At the end of 2009, Brenda Quintana, office manager, established a green team to bring environmental awareness and responsibility to the employees in the US head sales office located in Chester, PA.

“Green business certification will emphasize the environmental goals that SIG Combibloc has already implemented and will implement in the future,” says Brenda Quintana.  “It will also demonstrate SIG Combibloc as a company that offers a service that is notably environmentally advantageous and also a company that encourages an environmentally friendly office lifestyle for its employees”

After researching many companies, SIG Combibloc’s green team decided to join the GBB because it offers the feasible tools to raise awareness for SIG Combibloc employees and customers.  “The GBB’s association with the U.S. Green Building Council makes us confident that we are members of a reputable company who shares the same beliefs in the environment as SIG Combibloc Inc.,” says Quintana.  Another key decision making point was the user friendliness of the GBB program.  “The Green Business Bureau has a simple program and the support to make this an exciting experience for any company,” continues Quintana.
