On March 11  a tsumani and earthquake that measured 9 on the Richter Scale rocked Japan. It took the lives of an estimated 10,000 people, left 450,000 temporarily homeless and much of Japan without power or water.

The clean up cost is estimated to be around 140 billion US dollars and analysts predict the cost to the economy could be much greater.

Businesses and groups from all over the globe have been busy raising money for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami with Chinese companies also playing their part.

The Chinese government was contributing 30 million RMB in aid while the Chinese Red Cross had donated a combined 7 million  to help with rescue and clean up effects.

Giant Chinese B2B portal Alibaba had set up a  which allowed people to purchase items needed by survivors left without homes and philanthropist Chen Guangbiao  donated one million RMB in goods and medical supplies and took a team to help over in the disaster area.

Vincent Lee, Public Relations manager of China electronics shop FocalPrice said Chinese entities were only to eager to lend a hand because Japan had assisted without reserve when China was trying to recover from the effects of the Sichuan earthquake three years ago.

“Japan helped a great deal during the horrific events of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake  it’s only fair Chinese businesses help them out in their time of need,” said Mr Lee.

According to Mr Lee the FocalPrice store was also playing a part, giving 10% of its total Facebook shop revenue until April 6 to the American Red Cross to show its support for Japan survivors.

“FocalPrice will be donating no less than 1000 USD to Japan, in fact it is the company’s firm belief that it will be donating much much more,” said Mr Lee.
