London Tube Network Has No Delays Only Once a Year

March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- New figures have been released over the past day showing that the London Underground tube network has only had a good service on every line all day once during the past year. The day when there were no delays was 11th May 2010.

At a time when parking costs near tube stations are spiralling due to increased demand and less availability, as shown at http://www.tubestationparking.co.uk, these aren’t figures that are going to make people feel any better about the tube network.

A spokesman for the London Underground has attempted to put these figures into context:

“The Tube is carrying record numbers of passengers... which is almost as many as the entire national rail network combined.”

The spokesman also went on to say that thousands of trains run every day and out of them only a small percentage are every delayed each day.

However, whatever spin is put on the figures by those from the London Underground, it is staggering that the tube only ran with no delays on one single day, and what’s more, that day was over ten months ago. It is looking highly likely that this will rise to over 12 months given the huge numbers of delays over recent weeks.

Caroline Pidgeon, the head of the Liberal Democrat group on the London Assembly, has responded by saying what every Londoner must be thinking:

“Given the significant investment that has gone into the Tube every Londoner deserves far better than this.”

If anything it appears that the investment is leading to additional disruptions, for example with Blackfriars Station below having been closed for over 12 months now:

It’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few months as this revelation will certainly have increased the pressure on tube operators.
