March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Figuring out where to take your vehicle in for a vehicle inspection or an oil change is the least of your worries. Knowing what needs to be done to your vehicle and how often you should take it in, is the real question. Hare Chevrolet wants to inform you on the importance of the up keep on your vehicle.

First off, motor oil. It is considered the lifeblood of your engine. Without it, you won’t be driving anywhere. It is a formulated mixture of mineral or synthetic base stock and formulated additives that lubricates, cleans and cools your car’s engine. Hare recommends that you should bring your vehicle in for an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Hopefully, your vehicle attains a oil life monitor to inform you when needing another oil change.

Then, there is your engine air filter AND your cabin air filter. They are both a media of paper or synthetic material. The engine one prevents dirt and other particles from entering the engine, while the cabin filter cleans the air entering a vehicle’s compartment. Every 15,000 to 30,000 miles is when Hare Chevy recommends you to replace the filter for a cleaner, newer one.

The windshield wiper is a rubber or silicon squeegee that removes water from a vehicle’s windshield in wet conditions. When is the best time to get new ones? If water is smearing across the windshield or they “chatter” as they work, it might be a good time to buy new wipers. Also, the serpentine belt is a rubber or composite belt that transmits rotational energy from an engine to accessories; such as, power steering pumps, alternators, air conditioning compressors, etc. The belt should be inspected often and Hare recommends you to change it about every 100,000 miles. But if it cracks or you hear squeaking, you should get it changed quickly.

Next is the automatic transmission fluid, it is formulated oil that cleans, cools and lubricates your vehicle’s transmission. When to get it changed varies from vehicle to vehicle, but can go as high as 100,000 miles or more. But Hare Chevrolet recommends that you replace it every two years or 24,000 miles to provide maximum protection. Also, the coolant is a mixture of water and freeze-resistant liquid like ethylene glycol that circulates between a car’s engine and radiator, cooling the engine. Coolant flush services should be done between 100,000 and 150,000 miles, or when the vehicle is fiver years old.

One more thing you should know is about tire rotations. This service that swaps a vehicle’s front and rear tires, some tires are moved from side to side. Fortunately, this lengthens tire life and ensures the best ride. Chevy believes a tire rotation should be done every 6,000 to 7,500 miles.
