Akadema Signs Mark Melancon to Glove Contract

March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Hawthorne, NJ – March 16, 2011 – Houston Astros’ reliever Mark Melancon has agreed to a glove contract with Akadema for the 2011 MLB season.  During his time at the University of Arizona, Melancon set the single season and career record for saves. His success in college translated to his selection in the 9th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.  After becoming a highly touted prospect in the Yankees organization, Melancon was traded to the Astros in 2010 in the deal that sent Lance Berkman to the Yankees.  The 25 year-old Melancon hopes to continue his role as a setup man in the Houston bullpen as the Astros’ open up the season on April 1st in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
