March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Rolls-Royce said Wednesday that it had won a contract to provide Trent 900 engines to power six Airbus A380 jets from South Korea-based Asiana Airlines.

The UK-based aircraft engine maker and engineering group said the order also includes a long-term service agreement for the engines. Rolls-Royce did not disclose the financial terms of the deal with Asiana.

"This confirms the Trent 900 as the true market leader and engine of choice for the majority of A380 operators and marks a further deepening of our relationship with Asiana Airlines as we work to support their fleet expansion," Rolls-Royce's Senior Vice President for Civil Aerospace, Jim Sheard, said in a statement.

Asiana Airlines is due to take delivery of the Airbus A380 jets in 2014, and the airline had previously ordered Trent XWB engines from Rolls-Royce.

The jet engine manufacturer said its Trent 900 engines have now been selected to power the Airbus A380 by 10 out of 15 airlines. Rolls-Royce faces stiff competition from US-based jet engine manufacturers.

The company reported annual underlying revenues of £10.8 billion in 2010, more than half of which was related to the provision of services.
