March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The Choir of Emmanuel College Cambridge will be the special guests at a concert at Shrewsbury International School Bangkok on Saturday 26th March 2011.

The concert, called Spring Serenade, will include a varied choral programme from both Emmanuel College Choir and Shrewsbury’s Senior and Chamber choirs as well as orchestral performances from some of Shrewsbury’s most gifted students.

Emmanuel College Chapel Choir is a group of 23 students from the University of Cambridge whose primary function is to sing at the twice weekly choral services held in the College Chapel, with a repertoire that ranges from Renaissance motets to contemporary music.

However, their international status also allows them to tour across the UK and around the world to perform in churches, cathedrals and at a variety of music festivals. Their recent tours have taken them to the Festival de México, Italy, Sweden, Hawaii, Ireland and the US, to perform at Harvard University.

The choir will be accompanied on their Bangkok tour by the Senior Organ Scholar, July Verkade, whose sister is a student at Shrewsbury. The group will spend two days at Shrewsbury working with the Senior and Chamber Choirs as well as individual music scholars in a series of choral and conducting workshops.

In addition, Year 12 and 13 students will also have a unique opportunity to meet members of the choir to discuss life at Cambridge, their academic subjects and choice of colleges. These insights are invaluable in helping students when they apply to universities and assist in transitioning to university life.

The rest of the Emmanuel College Choir’s tour of Thailand will see them performing with Opera Siam, at Christ Church on Convent Road and for a special concert and dinner hosted by Oxbridge and Ivy League Alumni and the Rotary Club, to be held in the ballroom of the Chatrium Hotel.

The Spring Serenade will accompanied by afternoon tea. Tickets, priced THB 350, may be obtained by calling 02 675 1888 or by sending an email to heather.p@shrewsbury.ac.th .
