Author self-publishes first novella: Quittin' Time

March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Orleans, Ontario.  March 15, 2011 -- Ottawa author and publisher, Peter Crane, has self-published with Coyote House Press electronic versions of the novella "Quittin' Time" on Smashwords.  The story is set in Guelph, Ontario.  A young factory worker spends a late Friday afternoon with several of his friends.  They explore the intimacy of friendship and its potential for closeness that also comes with the possibility of betrayal.  At the heart of the casual peregrination through the city is a fundamental concern for the experience of history and time in a particular place.  Ultimately it is a young man’s attempt to find the sacred in a profane world, even if it is only a glimpse.

About Peter Crane
After much wandering about Peter settled in Ottawa two decades ago, leaving factory work and Guelph behind, to begin his formal education.  He participates in the work-a-day world of the civil service at Library and Archives Canada.  With a growing unease of desire and to abate the urge to knock peoples’ hats off, he has taken to writing in order to magic away the tragic demons of predictability whose capability to spook and send one’s senses reeling is concealed behind a slow and methodical wearing-away that slays over long stretches of time.  Whether the creative charm will actually work remains to be seen but the process up until now has been fruitful.  Peter is blessed with a wife with whom he has lived since he was a teenager and two beautiful children to care for.  He worked at many jobs, from serving as a gunner in the military to working on assembly lines in factories, before settling down at the Library.  His formal education crossed the paths of no less than four Canadian English departments: University of Waterloo, York University, Carleton University, and University of Ottawa.  He was born in Chicago, but lived out his youth across Canada and even spent some time in Argentina.
