March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Visitors are being invited to find out just what makes retirement village living so popular during an open afternoon on March 23rd at the country’s oldest purpose-built community.

Work started to create Elmbridge Village on the site of a former school in Cranleigh, Surrey, 30 years ago. Some of today’s residents were present when it was officially opened three years later by HRH Princess Alexandra. In the three decades since the village has been used as a blueprint for the creation of further age exclusive communities by owner Retirement Villages Ltd. And the village, with comfortable, modern homes and extensive communal facilities, is as current now as it was then.

“Retirement living is becoming more and more popular as people recognise the benefits,” said the company’s Sales and Marketing Director Sarah Burgess. “This is chance for people who have never really considered it – or don’t really understand how it could work for them – to visit one of our villages and find out first hand.”

During the Open Afternoon - from 2pm to 4pm – staff will be on hand to show visitors around the village and also the properties for sale, and to answer questions.

Retirement Villages Ltd has been developing and managing bespoke lifestyle and care villages for the over 55s for 30 years. The pioneers of the UK model, the company now has approaching 2,000 residents living in 12 locations spread across 10 counties in the south of the country.
