March 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Anxiety disorders are treatable and controllable. Anxiety spectrum disorders include: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), phobias, and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD).

Diagnosing Anxiety Disorders and Co-existing Disorders

Prior to determining the course of treatment, clients should be examined and evaluated to ascertain if their current symptoms are a result of any underlying anxiety or mood disorders.  Treatment choices would vary based upon the particular condition diagnosed. If the patient is diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder, the specific type of disorder and any co-existing conditions should also be identified.

Treatable and Controllable with Therapy and Medication

If the patient is found to have an eating disorder, treatment should address both disorders as symptoms of one condition tend to exacerbate the other. Given below are a few of the different treatment options available for anxiety disorders:

• Cognitive-Behavior Therapy – This therapy places emphasis on thoughts or cognitions, on identifying and challenging disruptive thoughts thought processes and replacing them with positive healthy thoughts. CBT therapy assists in identifying irrational and illogical thought patterns that cause the anxiety.

• Hypnosis – This therapy may be performed along with cognitive-behavioral therapy. The therapy begins by putting the client into a state of deep relaxation. The hypnotherapist utilizes different therapeutic techniques to help the sufferer make his thought process more positive or empowered with respect to fears and to courageously face them.

• Medication – Medication therapy can be an effective tool to help clients manage the symptoms of Anxiety Disorders. Medication therapy should always be overseen by a licensed Psychiatrist. Medication therapy works best in conjunction with psychotherapy.

• Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy – This therapy is a specific type of cognitive-behavioral therapy utilized to treat anxiety disorders. Clients are asked to identify anxiety-provoking situations that they typically have difficulty tolerating without using ritual or harmful behaviors. The therapist then gradually and repetitively exposes the client to these situations, while requesting that they not engage in ritual behaviors to cope with the anxiety or fear that they experience. With this consistent exposure to feared situations, clients allow themselves to see that what they fear will happen in a given situation will not actually occur, and as a result their anxiety about a previously feared situation reduces naturally.

Find the Right Mental Health Care Provider

To conclude, anxiety disorders are treatable and controllable. However, it is important to seek treatment early to ensure a better success rate. Finding the treatment center for anxiety disorders is essential to effective care. Ask about or go online and check reviews and testimonials to find the right mental healthcare provider.
