Realtor to Run the Rock ‘N’ Roll 1/2 Marathon (13.1 miles) Despite Rocky Racing Background

March 13, 2011 - PRLog -- On Sunday, March 27th, over 13,000 runners and walkers will descend up Dallas for the Rock ‘N’ Roll ½ Marathon.  Gary Woltal, a Realtor with Keller Williams Flower Mound Realty and popular real estate blogger on the Active Rain network, will be one of those runners.    This will be his first half marathon.   The fact that Gary is running this half marathon is a perfect example of his tenacity and willingness to overcome negative circumstances.  Most ordinary people wouldn’t think of running 13.1 miles.  If most ordinary runners had similar first race experiences to Gary’s, they wouldn’t consider running another race.  
Gary ran his first race in Alabama.  In that race, the participants were told that only the first 300 finishers would get a T-shirt.  Gary really wanted a T-shirt.  Although he wasn’t properly conditioned for running in the humidity or the distance, Gary gave it his all.  He made it to the finish line in time to win a T-shirt.  However, as he crossed the finish line, he passed out from oxygen deprivation.   As he lay there, drifting in and out of consciousness, scenes from his life passed before him.  Gary thought he was going to die.   Fortunately, he didn’t.  
Despite the bad experience in his first race, Gary decided to run another race.   He didn’t pass out in race number two.  This time, after he crossed the finish line, someone made fun of his shoes.  Apparently he was wearing Keds, or something along those lines, rather than “real” running shoes.  Thirty years later, Gary still remembers the humiliation of feeling like he was not a real runner.  
Fast forward to today.   Gary considers himself a “regular” runner.  Although he maintains a healthy lifestyle, regularly working out at the gym, swimming, and running;  his life does not revolve around his runs and training schedule.  He is not a health food “fanatic.”  He does not even log how many miles per week that he runs.   Gary simply runs because he enjoys running.  
Like most average runners, Gary doesn’t feel like he is as prepared as he should be for the upcoming race.  Yet a half marathon still feels like a normal progression for him after having run a number of 10K’s.  Gary is also aware that the Rock ‘N’ Roll ½ Marathon promises to be a lot of fun.  Not only will there be lots of interesting people, there will be a 13 different bands set up along the race route.  Afterwards, Gary will be able to enjoy beer and a post- race Bret Michaels concert.  If you are interested in cheering Gary on as he runs his first half marathon,   see http://dallas.competitor.com/event-information/spectators for more information.
