A Very Big Thank You From The Brighton Bead Shop

March 13, 2011 - PRLog -- I knew it was going to be big when, riding the bus into town, I saw one coming the opposite way with several Beads Unlimited silver commemorative balloons floating around the top deck! On arrival I was amazed at the transformation of The Brighton Bead Shop’s familiar surroundings. The inside was positively glowing. Not an inch of ceiling was left uncovered as silver balloons floated above our heads. Our little back yard had been transformed into a magical silver grotto, where our resident facepainting artists were adorning a queue of eager children. A mountain of delicious chocolate cupcakes sat, begging to be eaten, near the front door – enough to entice anybody in! All members of staff had come, suitably dressed in a mix and match of silver and grey, and all of them sporting flower corsages. Despite their glamorous image, it was still business as usual as they served the crowds of eager customers. An especially important task on this day, as 25% of the day’s takings was to go to the RNLI.  

Two crew members joined us, in full kit and the fundraising representative for London and the South East, Lou Purdy. They very kindly gave up part of their day and chatted to the public about their work.  The RNLI crew are all volunteers that provide an essential service under extremely dangerous conditions so we think they deserve every single penny that we can send their way. Along with the 25% from the shop’s takings on our Jubilee day, all the money raised from the activities that went on will also be donated. We would like to thank all of our customers who gave so generously.  

At the beginning of this year we ran a competition for someone to come up with a design for a large commemorative plaque to celebrate our 25 years of beading bliss. Vanessa Brooks-Fisher was our very worthy winner with her bold and colourful pendant design. At midday, Brighton celebrities Boogaloo Stu and Dolly Rocket performed the grand unveiling. We couldn’t have chosen better with our special guests who, literally, screamed Brighton in their garb and showmanship. Dolly arrived resplendent in a fabulous silver frock, killer heels and an enormous turquoise wig, whilst Stu sported an itsy bitsy silver and lime green leotard, a lilac quiff and fabulous platform shoes covered in cabochons. The stalwart pair performed their duties in style and posed professionally for the photo shoot, eclipsing the rest of us with their panache. They then went above and beyond the call of duty and hung around for extra time, handing out leaflets to unsuspecting passers by in the sub zero temperatures.
