The STAPLES Center and Los Angeles Lakers Unveiled a Sculpture of NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West

March 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The STAPLES Center and the Los Angeles Lakers unveiled a 7’H bronze sculpture of legendary NBA Hall of Famer, Jerry West, situated on a 4’x 5’x 4 1/2’ granite base. The iconic figure, which is installed in Star Plaza, was sculpted by artists Julie Rotblatt Amrany and Omri Amrany, owners of the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany located in Highwood, Illinois.

Jerry West spoke of how he was humbled and honored by the statue.  He had prepared a speech, but struggled to start the speech as fans chanted his name.  "This is kind of awkward for me," West said. "And to be honored by the people I admire most is very meaningful."  Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton were in attendance, with Kobe Bryant delivering a taped message.

Past studio commissions of other notable sports figures include Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Johnny Red Kerr, Wilt Chamberlain, Harry Caray, Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Curly Lambeau, Vince Lombardi, Pat Tillman, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Ted Lindsay as well as numerous players for the Detroit Tigers, the Washington Nationals and the Chicago White Sox.
